A two bedroom detached cottage in need of renovation and modernisation work for sale close to Tomar in central Portugal. The cottage, which is set over two floors, has good views of the countryside and comes with two ruined barns. The cottage is set in an elevated position above a quiet country road and has been connected to mains water in the past. The cottage has aluminium framed double glazed windows and stone window and door surrounds. The main entrance to the cottage is accessed via an external stone staircase which leads to a terrace at the front of the property. The main entrance leads directly into a living room, which has a wooden floor. There are two bedrooms off the living room, both of which have wooden floors. The kitchen is also accessed off the living room and is situated at the rear of the cottage. The kitchen has a wooden floor and a traditional, corner fireplace. At present there are no ceilings within this floor of the cottage and each room is open to the rafters of the roof. The cottage has a spacious cellar, which has exposed stone walls. The cellar is accessed via an exterior door and has been used for storage purposes however could be converted into additional living space quite easily. There is a single storey stone built barn to one side of the cottage which is included within the sale. The roof of the barn is in a bad condition and would require completely replacing. There is a second barn, which is detached and set over two floors. This barn is also constructed in stone but does require a good deal of repair work as one corner has collapsed. The cottage is situated in a quiet area with good views of the countryside. There are neighbouring properties around and the closest village is situated at Póvoa, which has several cafes and a small mini-market. Póvoa is around ten minutes drive from the larger town of Tomar, which has supermarkets, shops, builders merchants, cafes, restaurants, health centres, schools, a weekly market, swimming pools and historic Convento do Cristo and Castle constructed by the Knight Templars in the 12th century. The closest airport to the property is situated at Lisbon, which is around one and a half hours' drive from the cottage, though it is possible to utilise either train or bus for this journey. Lisbon airport is serviced by several low cost airlines which operate regular flights into and out of the United Kingdom and other European countries. |
