Property Description

A traditional style, two storey detached house for sale in the village of Almogadel in central Portugal. The house, which is not connected to mains water or electricity, has many traditional features including a 'Juliet balcony'. The property is set back from the road through the village and has a large garden to the side and rear.

The property does require modernisation and renovation work including the installation of a bathroom and kitchen, though could be converted into a comfortable country retreat quite easily. The property has aluminium framed windows with internal wooden shutters. The window and door surrounds are carved stone.

The main entrance to the house leads directly into the living room, which has a wooden floor and a decorative wooden ceiling. The kitchen is located at the rear of the house and also has a wooden floor. There is a large, traditional fireplace to one corner of the kitchen and there is also an exterior access door leading to the rear of the house. A wooden staircase within the kitchen leads to the first floor accommodation. There is also one bedroom to the ground floor.

The first floor accommodation can also be accessed via an external staircase to the side of the house as well as the internal wooden staircase. There is a second bedroom to the first floor, which has a set of patio doors leading out to a Juliet Balcony. There is also a living room which could be turned into a third bedroom. The property also has a loft, which has gable end window openings, and is currently used for storage purposes.

The property is set on a plot measuring around 1,000 square metres, which is all relatively flat. There is a low, stone wall to the front of the property and a variety of mature olive trees. The property also has a large well.

The property is situated within the village of Almogadel in central Portugal and as such there are neighbouring properties opposite, though none to either side of the property. The road of the village does pass in front of the property and there are several cafes within walking distance of the house as well as a small mini-market.

 

The slightly larger village of Chaos, which has a bakers, butchers, cafes, bar and weekly market, is only around one and a half kilometres drive from the property. The town of Ferreira do Zęzere, which governs the area, is only around 10 minutes drive from the property. Ferreira do Zęzere has several supermarkets, shops, banks, health centres schools.

 

and  The historic town of Tomar, which is home to the UNESCO listed Convento do Cristo - constructed by the Knight Templars, is around 15 minutes drive from the property. Tomar is a popular and bustling town which boasts several supermarkets, shops, restaurants, cafes, banks, doctors, schools, cinema, bowling alley, university, hospital, museums and art galleries as well as bus and train stations providing easy access to the region.

 

The closest airport is located at Lisbon, which is approximately one and a quarter hours' drive from the property. Lisbon airport is serviced by several low cost airlines which operate regular flights into and out of the United Kingdom as well as other European countries. Lisbon airport can easily be accessed from Tomar by either car, bus or train.
