A three bedroom traditional style cottage in need of restoration work for sale near Alvaiázere in central Portugal. The cottage is connected to mains water and electricity and also has a well on the land. The property is well proportioned with many traditional features but has space to extend into existing building space. The cottage, which is situated on a quiet road, is set over two floors. The property has stone window and door surrounds and has some integral shutters. The property does need some modernisation and renovation work, but is in a basic habitable condition. The cottage has good views across the countryside and briefly comprises: First Floor: The main entrance to the cottage is a double opening metal door with glazed panels. This leads directly into a living room with a wooden floor and ceiling. The kitchen, which is accessed off the living room, is rustic and has a traditional style fireplace to one corner as well as a marble sink and drainer. There is a second living room which also has a wooden floor and ceiling. There are three bedrooms all of which have wooden floors and ceilings. There is a bathroom, which is functional but would benefit from being updated. The bathroom is partially tiled and has a bath with shower above, toilet, bidet and pedestal sink. Ground Floor: The ground floor of the cottage can be accessed from the garden and has been divided into several rooms. These rooms has exposed stone walls and wooden beamed ceilings. The rooms primarily have been used for storage purposes though could be converted into additional living space quite easily with the correct permissions. Attic: The cottage has a spacious attic, which has gable end window openings. At present this attic space, which has exposed stone walls and a eucalyptus beamed roof is only used as additional storage, though could also be converted into an additional bedroom if required. Garage: The cottage also has a garage, which has been constructed at a later date than the living accommodation. This garage has been built using red bricks and is attached to the cottage. The property is situated in a quiet area and has around 1,300 square metres of land, which is situated at the rear of the cottage. The property's land is gently sloping and has some mature fruit trees including orange and lemon. The cottage is situated near the town of Alvaiázere in central Portugal. The centre of Alvaiázere has three small supermarkets, a pharmacy, cafes, hardware shops, agricultural merchants, a rural museum, municipal sports centre, library, council, shops, cafes, bars, restaurants, petrol station, health centre, sports centre, library and swimming pool and is within walking distance of the house.
The historic town of Tomar, which is famous for the UNESCO listed Convento do Cristo, is around 25 minutes drive by car from the house. Tomar is a bustling town (though is holds a city status in Portugal) and has around 40,000 inhabitants. There is a train station, bus station, municipal sports centre, museums, art galleries, bowling alley, cinema, cafes, restaurants and a popular weekly market.
The closest airport to the farmhouse is located at Lisbon, which is approximately one and three quarter hours' drive. Lisbon airport is serviced by several low cost airlines which operate regular flights into and out of the United Kingdom. The property has good access links and the 110 Tomar to Coimbra road is a short drive away. |
