The property was originally constructed using traditional 'Xisto' stone and some of these walls do remain. The roof of the cottage has collapsed in places. The cottage is situated in a small village close to the market town of Figueiro dos Vinhos in central Portugal. Figueiro dos Vinhos has cafes, restaurants, a supermarket, health centre, banks, shops and schools as well as builders merchants and architect offices.

The closest airport to the property is situated at Porto, which is around one and three quarter hours' drive by car. Porto airport is serviced by a variety of low cost airlines, which operate regular flights into and out of the United Kingdom and other European countries.
