Renovated rustic country property in the vicinity of Dornes and the shores of the Castelo do Bode dam.
The property consists of terraced land measuring a bit over one hectar and a two bedroom house with annex and shed.
The property is connected to mains water and electricity and is accessed by a gravel road from the closest hamlet. A gravel driveway leads onto the property.
To the right of the drive way we have the annex, which consists of:
– a kitchenette with open fireplace,
– a bath room with toilet, pedestal sink and walk-in shower,
– and one room with exposed roof beam which serves as bedroom and lounge. This room has good views into the surrounding green landscape.
Next to the annex there is a large water tank, which is used as a plunge pool and as deposit for water for irrigation purposes. This tank is fed by water sourced at a neighbor´s land, thanks to an agreement set up a long time ago.
Then we have a shed for storing fire wood and garden tools.
The main house is on the left side of the driveway. The main door opens directly into the open kitchen and living room, with open fireplace in the kitchen corner. To the left we have the bedroom. At the far right corner we have a bathroom with walk-in shower, pedestal sink and toilet. There is another door to the terrace on the side of the living room area. Underneath this terrace there are two rooms, one of which serves as laundry room.
On the other side of the house we have iron stairs leading up to the attic. The attic is very well insulated and is open space. This room could be used as an office or as a second bedroom.
In the far left corner of the living room there is a door which opens to wooden stairs leading into the lower floor of the house. Here we have two divisions, each with glass door to the terrace to the side of the house.
The plot of land is mostly terraced and slopes down into a valley where there is a large meadow, ideal for planting olive trees and fruit trees.
The property is located in a very peaceful valley between hills in the area of the Dornes. There are only two other properties in this valley, both owned by German families who live a quiet life much to themselves. The property is within walking distance of the picturesque medieval hamlet. Dornes is located on a peninsula in the Castelo do Bode lake.
The lake is formed by the Castelo do Bode dam, which is Portugal’s second largest reservoir. Castelo do Bode lake is popular for all kinds of water sport activities including water skiing, jet skiing, canoeing, swimming, sailing, scuba diving and fishing. The picturesque village of Dornes is located on a peninsula in the Castelo do Bode, has two restaurants and cafés and pilgrims regularly visit the church and the surroundings.
The nearest airport to the property is situated at Lisbon, which is approximately one hour and a half hours away by car. Lisbon airport is serviced by a variety of international airlines including some low cost ones, who provide regular flights into and out of the United Kingdom and other European countries. The international airport of Porto is two and a half hours away. The historic town of Tomar is less half an hour away and has a train station.
