Dornes sits on a peninsula within the Castelo do Bode lake, drinking water supply for Lisbon and surrounding towns. It is also a pilgrimage site for the veneration of the Holy Mother, and a popular place for water sports such as water skiing, canoeing, fishing and swimming. There are some holiday rental houses and guest houses as well as two cafés and two restaurants in Dornes.
The larger town of Ferreira do Zêzere, which has supermarkets, shops, cafes, restaurants, banks, schools, bus station, tourist information office, builder’s merchants, butchers and bakers, is around 10 minutes´ drive from the property. From Ferreira do Zêzere there is a direct bus to Lisbon.
The historic town of Tomar is around 25 minutes´ drive from the property.
